9m Birds Eye Trailer
The brief from the agency was simple.
"We want 22 different trailers for Birds Eye to
launch their new product 'Enjoy'. We want them fully
fitted out with gas burners, freezers and display cabinets.
They need to be versatile enough to be used in multiple
locations. Oh and did we mention that we need them all
in 12 weeks for the product launch ?"
Well who else were they going to call
?
All of the trailers were to be used
as mobile demonstration and sampling units. The idea
was that these catering trailers would travel around
the UK to supermarkets to promote a new Birds Eye product
which could be taken from the freezer and cooked within
3 minutes. Every trailer needed full catering facilities
including gas hob and freezer. They also needed to be
totally self sufficient when on site so required on
board power and water.
The 9m unit was to feature banks of TV screens to show
promotional videos and would be the flagship for the
product.
We came up with a design that would
suit 3 different sized units - 2.5m
product sampling, 4m
demonstration unit and 9m catering trailer - as
this would enable the customer to use the trailers at
all sizes of venue.
So far, so good. We'd come up with a design that worked
and that ticked all the boxes on the design brief. Now
there was just the small matter of building 22 trailers
in a matter of weeks for the big product launch at Goodwood
House. That's 22 fully equipped, self sufficient catering
trailers manufactured and fitted in 3 months. An impossible
task, surely ?
Working long hours and often late into
