Blackburn Trailers have been producing bespoke trailers for over 25 years. We regularly say to clients that anything is possible - come to us with an idea and we’ll turn it into reality. This can be quite an eye opener to the customer, particularly when they’ve spoken to other exhibition trailer manufacturers who have tried to fob them off with an off-the-peg solution.

We’d like to share this letter we recently received at the offices:

As we motor home along the M27, I thought I’d take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to you and your team.

Rarely in this day and age of pressure selling and empty promises does a company actually deliver on its promises. In our very tight time restriction you delivered a trailer which suits our requirements perfectly, exceeds our expectations, and delivered on time and on budget.

When we originally made contact with you, your words were ‘anything is possible’. We didn’t really know what was possible, and we weren’t sure as to what would suit us best. The creation you have produced is perfect.

3 Metre Box Trailer

This 3m x 2.2m x 2.2m single axle box trailer is designed to be easy to tow and set up.  For ease of entry it has been constructed with a low floor and a full side opening canopy.

Low Level Eye to Eye Trailer

This is a 3m x 2.2m hydraulic ‘Eye to Eye’ trailer which is easy to tow by car and can be set up in minutes by one person.   This trailer lowers to ground level making it easy for access or serving.  This unit comes with side canopy opening and a rear access door.

It’s versatile structure makes it ideal for many uses  - catering and coffee bars, retail work, promotional work, information centres and it is just at home in shopping malls and town centres or at outside events and exhibitions!

They were looking for the most cost effective method for transporting the Glulam beams which come in 13 metre lengths.

We stepped up to the challenge and created this non HGV lightweight trailer coupled to an Iveco Dailey mini tractor unit with a 5300kgs payload.

Not only does the trailer unit allow Lamisell to transport their extra long timber laminated beams quickly and efficiently across the UK, the semi-trailer has also reduced their costs compared with traditional carrier/road transport heavy goods vehicles.

As a non HGV trailer, they have been able to make cost savings on road tax, insurance and driver costs as well as reducing their carbon footprint.

In these difficult times, the advantages of a non HGV, lightweight artic are obvious and more of our customers are coming to us looking for a semi-trailer as a way of reducing their transport costs.

The Lamisell non HGV trailer has been a massive success for them. In their own words, “[the] new truck has a length carrying capacity of 13 metres and makes our Glulam delivery service even more flexible“.

The broadcast unit was extremely light and manoeuvrable meaning that the ITV crew could get it quickly into place at each of the tracks and, with all sides of the unit being removable, capture the best of the action. Not only could the camera crew catch all the action in the pit lanes but the background graphics could be quickly changed to reflect the race meeting and any sponsorship requirements.

With the overhead lighting gantry, it proved to be an excellent base for the pre and post race interviews as we can see in this picture of Steve Rider interviewing Colin Turkington, the 2009 champion.

This small, specially designed trailer enabled ITV to stay close to the action but out of the weather - essential for anyone broadcasting outside in the British summer!

England, of course, famously won the Ashes back in the summer of 2005 in one of the most exciting Test series in living memory. Before the series started most people wrote off their chances of beating the world number one team but despite losing the opening match at Lord’s, England went on to win the series 2-1.

Many people will say it was the performances of Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff or Kevin Pietersen that sealed the series win but we would like to think that it was actually the Kompak factor that made the difference.

We’d worked with the ECB in the past when we built a temporary cricket shop for them as part of the redevelopment work at Lord’s (see pics below) and as part of the Ashes campaign, in association with Vodafone, they ran the Cricket Roadshow which was a nationwide tour promoting the sport and asked us to get involved.

We built a 7 metre trailer which contained a state of the art mini-cinema where visitors were treated to a high tech interactive cricket experience.

The trailer also had storage for the outdoor portable nets where visitors could face the 90 miles per hour bowling machine or test the speed of their own bowling.

The Cricket Roadshow travelled all over the UK in the weeks leading up to the Ashes series and was a prominent feature at grounds during the matches themselves and the interest generated by the exhibition led to a new found fervour for the game which transferred itself into the stands. England captain Michael Vaughan often referred to the crowd as being England’s twelfth man so we like to think that it was our trailer which helped him lift the urn at the Oval.

Now this is all well and good when you’re selling smaller items but when it comes to selling boilers and similar large complex items to wholesalers and tradesmen, it’s not so easy. Add in the requirement of teaching skills upgrades to their range of installers and demonstrating a full working model requiring gas, pumped water and electricity in a windy car park, you can see that it would take something pretty out of the ordinary to achieve this.

That’s where the 5.6m Kompak Classic Maxi Promotor comes in.

This trailer manages to provide all these facilities as well as easy access, an on board galley, secure storage area and a huge area of sign writing and graphics for promoting brand awareness. All of this from a non HGV, non tachograph exhibition trailer that is easy to tow and set up.

The Classic Maxi Promotor has proved to be a versatile trailer for Vokèra. Not only can they take their product to their customers and train their boiler installers and merchants but they can also use it to publicise their services at exhibitions and trade shows.

The Cats Protection Charity 4×4 Land Rover evolved because of the requirement to traverse wet muddy soft ground with a mobile exhibition and fund raising facility. Not only does it achieve this it has self leveling hydraulic jacks built in to allow for uneven ground when setting up.

The brief was for a small, self contained go anywhere exhibition truck which was easy to set up and operate by one person.

If you happen to see a canary yellow Land Rover promotional vehicle half way up Snowdon, don’t be surprised!

This vehicle has a small built in office and storage space an on board generator and is equipped with plasma screen and PA system, it also comes with fold out branding boards and very distinctive paintwork.

We were asked by London PR Agency Beattie Communications to come up with a novel way of promoting their new client easyJet. They wanted us to build a mobile sauna complete with smoke effects, lighting hot coals, internal benches and lighting to transport a team of scantily clad models around London and they wanted it within the week.

Amid much whining by the guys in the warehouse, we cracked open another industrial sized tub of midnight oil and worked through the night to produce the 5 metre long PR trailer in time for the product launch. Oddly enough, finding someone to drive the tow vehicle and 15 seater minibus to transport the partially clothed models around London wasn’t quite as difficult…

The mobile sauna proved to be a big success as you can see by watching this video of the event on YouTube.
