ITV Outside Broadcast Unit
We were asked by the folks at ITV to make a mobile interview set to be used on the British Touring Car Championship. The idea was that the unit could be easily transported to all of the ten venues across the country and be the central point for the TV coverage.
The broadcast unit was extremely light and manoeuvrable meaning that the ITV crew could get it quickly into place at each of the tracks and, with all sides of the unit being removable, capture the best of the action. Not only could the camera crew catch all the action in the pit lanes but the background graphics could be quickly changed to reflect the race meeting and any sponsorship requirements.
With the overhead lighting gantry, it proved to be an excellent base for the pre and post race interviews as we can see in this picture of Steve Rider interviewing Colin Turkington, the 2009 champion.
This small, specially designed trailer enabled ITV to stay close to the action but out of the weather - essential for anyone broadcasting outside in the British summer!
